Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) is a set of principles and practices that seeks to take a software engineering approach to solving the IT Operations problems that EP&S needs to solve.
In the Command Center & Ops team, we seek to apply an SRE approach to managing Pfizer's global infrastructure operations, with a focus on :
Ensuring services are running smoothly by identifying and regularly reviewing operational health indicators to ensure delivery to defined service levels.
Continuously analysing service data to identify service improvement opportunities. Opportunities will be assessed on their potential to remove manual effort ('toil'), improve service reliability and enhance customer experience.
Developing, or partnering with other teams to develop automation that will remove toil from the environment, and deliver a more reliable, cost effective service.
Each of the main infrastructure service areas have a designated SRE Lead.
Lead a team of software and systems engineers who work on projects to further the SRE objectives outlined above.
Design, write and deliver software to improve the availability and efficiency of the global infrastructure services on which Pfizer's critical application run.
Lead by example, care for your team, and establish credibility with the quality of your own and your team's technical execution.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with SRE Leads. Ensure the capabilities and capacity of the pool are understood by SRE Leads, and that the processes for accessing those services are agreed and followed.
Partner with SRE Leads and other stakeholders to develop and maintain a backlog of items for delivery by the SRE Pool.
The backlog will typically include software development, analytics development, data analysis and process analysis items.
Participate in, and where required lead backlog grooming activities.
Design and implement effectiveness and value metrics for the SRE Pool; track and regularly report the metrics.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
7+ years' experience in automation, data analytics, process engineering
Experience programming in one or more of the following : Python, Java, Go, C, C++, etc.
Experience working with one or more infrastructure systems area (server, storage, databases or networking) with scripting experience to automate commonly executed tasks.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build relationships, influence outcomes, and to deliver effective presentations to a variety of audiences.
Demonstrated expertise in managing a team of enthusiastic engineers of various experience levels on large scale projects.
Strong knowledge of and experience in the application of Agile principles, mindsets and methodologies.
Hands-on technical experience.
Capable of technical deep dives into code, networking, operating systems and / or storage, yet verbally and cognitively agile enough to hold your own in a strategy discussion with SRE Leads and other stakeholders.
Expertise in problem solving and analyzing global scale distributed systems.
