Reporting to the Associate General Patent Counsel, the successful candidate will be based in one of the key R&D sites, either in Slough, UK or in Brussels, Belgium .
The candidate must be willing to travel between the company’s headquarter and other R&D sites if / when required.
The successful candidate will assume responsibility for all aspects of IP matters arising from development projects and technology platforms, in biologic projects.
In addition to providing IP counselling and advice to the R&D scientists , legal, business and commercial teams, the appointee will also be responsible for all IP matters relating to invention harvesting, patent drafting, prosecution and enforcement, freedom-to-operate and competitive landscape analyses, patent validity, infringement matters, IP risk management, opposition and appeal cases.
Along with a highly qualified legal team, the appointed person will also handle IP related aspects of contractual agreements with external partners, universities and other research institutions and lead IP due diligence projects, i.
e., M&A and assets / technology licensing; depending on level and experience, and on the development ambitions of the candidate there will be the opportunity to provide support for IP policy work and litigation.
Candidates will also be expected to demonstrate the commercial acumen and professionalism required to advise a multidisciplinary team and the general business functions on patent related matters.
You will contribute by :
Managing relationships with external counsel where required.
It is also important to note that the appointed person must be a team-player and able to adapt to working within different project teams as and when required.
The successful candidate will also have the ability to build effective relationships with R&D scientists, legal and business teams, as well as contribute to the high-performance level of the Intellectual Property department of UCB.
It is envisaged that the appointee will be required to travel on an occasional basis, in line with the demands of the business when restrictions are lifted.
