Job Description

The Director of Advising and Retention oversees student support services related to student academic advising and retention.

Oversees professional advising of first-year students in the college and serves as a point of contact for academic advising best practices.

In collaboration with the Assistant Dean, this position assists in the development and implementation of a range of retention programs and will primarily oversee the Peer Mentor Program and My Achievement Program.

This position will also work prospective students and attend recruitment and yield events for new students as needed.

Primary responsibilities include :

Direct and oversee all aspects of the college’s learning community activities, provide academic advising during BSO, oversee all aspects of the peer mentor program and my achievement program.

  • Develop new retention programs in collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Student Success; provide academic advising to undecided students and others as assigned;
  • support on-campus recruitment and yield efforts in collaboration with the Office of Undergraduate Admissions.

    Supervise professional academic advisors and Associate Director of Career Leadership Development; develop and interpret analytical reports to measure validation and suggest changes based on effectiveness and guide decision making with regards to decisions on retention programming, academic advising and student support services.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Master’s degree in a related field.

    At least 3 year’s of related experience.

    At least 3 year’s of management / supervisory experience.

    Experience with or knowledge of Appreciative Advising (or similar advising models) and student / human development.

    Familiarity with collecting and using data to drive decision-making.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Master’s degree in a health care discipline.
