The Nordic Library at Athens has an opening for a Librarian
The Nordic Library at Athens is a library within the field of archaeology and ancient culture. Its
collection comprises approximately 35,000 volumes mainly within classical archaeology, history and
philology. It was founded as a joint venture by the archaeological institutes of Denmark, Finland,
Norway, and Sweden and is situated in central Athens in the Makrigianni area, in the vicinity of these
institutes. It is managed by a board consisting of the directors of the four participating institutes
and has a staff of two : a librarian and a library assistant.
The Library is used mainly by Nordic students and scholars, though it welcomes also scholars of all
nationalities. It offers working space for thirty individuals.
The Nordic Library now wishes to appoint :
A librarian for a full-time position conditions of appointment according to the Greek labour market.
The librarian is in charge of the library, performs usual library duties and takes part in all daily tasks.
The appointee will be a trained librarian preferably with library working experience, and should be
fluent in one Scandinavian language, English and Modern Greek. Knowledge of ancient Greek culture
and society is an advantage.
The appointee must be service-oriented and possess good interpersonal skills.
Appointment : 1 September 2010 or as soon as possible thereafter.
