Role purpose :
The DevOps Chapter Lead is the Product Owner of Skills Development, who builds expertise in the chapter and develops chapter members.
Enthusiastic about transferring knowledge to others, chapter leads provide coaching and oversee personal development. In addition to leading a chapter community, the Chapter Lead is also a member of a Squad, completing Squad work at 30% of their time, thus will work closely with software, QA, and systems engineers to understand requirements and prototype, architect, implement, operate and update DevOps solutions accordingly.
The Chapter Lead does not direct squad work this comes from the Product Owner and the Squad Product Backlog.
Key accountabilities and decision ownership :
In addition to individual Squad accountabilities, for 30% of the time, which include i) establishing a portfolio of DevOps processes, practices, and tools to empower and support delivery teams in continuous deployment, continuous integration, and rapid delivery across value streams, ii) creating and implementing automation and orchestration tools with infrastructure teams or cloud providers and iii) ensuring availability, scalability, maintainability, monitoring of systems for operations, the Chapter Lead will :
Guide a community of Experts that are working within squads / scrums.
Work with the Tribe and Tech Lead to provide workforce plans for recruitment and development.
Organises interactions between the members of the chapter to nurture best practice and encourage knowledge & tool sharing
Act as a supporting leader, rather than a line manager, aiming at maturing the organisation readiness, vs. controlling the work
Provides guidance and harmonization of chapter best-practices (Chapter principles)
Acts as a mentor for Expert members of the chapter, helping them grow in expertise and experience new areas
Play a pivotal role in inspiring and motivating everyone in the chapter to be the best they can be.

Agility and willingness to track, assess, and incorporate practice and technology developments into day-to-day working
Must have technical / professional qualifications :
At least 5 years of professional experience in a relevant role

Can apply a range of techniques to support facilitation, training and teaching to guide and manage a group event to ensure that objectives are met effectively
Automated software and infrastructure deployment and configuration management
Agile and DevOps Software development experience
Public and private cloud IaaS and PaaS deployment models and technologies, e.g. AWS (preferred), Openstack, Azure
Strong understanding of network protocols, client-server communication and networking inside Kubernetes Cluster
Virtualization and infrastructure technologies, e.g. Windows, Linux, Kubernetes, Docker, VMWare, Xen, KVM
Infrastructure automation and configuration management tools, e.g. Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Salt, Terraform.
Test automation with SonarQube and live Monitoring with Splunk
