Base Location : Athens

Reports to : Livelihoods Manager

The position is undertaken and fulfilled by IRC and is exclusively funded by third bodies with predetermined duration to materialize a specific program.

The IRC works in Greece from July 2015 responding and providing aid to refugees and migrants. The IRC’s programming in Greece currently focuses on Protection, Mental Health & PSS, Water and Sanitation & Economic Recovery & Development and in Athens, and Lesvos & Chios islands.

Scope of Work :

IRC Greece supports vulnerable refugee and host communities in Athens to access income generation through employment and self-

employment. Working through employment and business development service providers the IRC supports access to job counseling, legal counseling, job referral, life skills, vocational training, on the job training and microenterprise directly and in collaboration with partners.

IRC Hellas and partners will provide integration courses for refugees residing in Athens. The IRC is recruiting a Soft Skills Training Assistant to support the delivery of the Soft Skills Module that covers topics related to cultural orientation, life skills and job readiness to facilitate social and economic integration.

The Soft Skills Training Assistant, under the direct supervision of the Livelihoods Manger, will be responsible for coordinating and implementing outdoor activities and / or inviting guest speakers to complement the soft skills training.

Responsibilities :

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to :

  • Researching, planning and organizing monthly outdoor activities related to the topics of the soft skills training (cultural orientation, life skills, job readiness) such as visits to a public service;
  • job fairs; large companies;
  • Lead the coordination of outdoor activities, by maintaining communication with beneficiaries, soft skills educators and the integration learning centre team;
  • Support ongoing monitoring, tracking and ongoing of classes;
  • Collecting relevant project data (academic and attendance records, lessons plans) and maintaining effective filing systems on a weekly and monthly basis;
  • Any other task assigned by the Soft Skills Team Leader related to the project’s goal;
  • Program Coordination Responsibilities :

  • Work with the IRC Livelihoods team to ensure training curricula are up-to-date, meet training objectives and are being effectively and uniformly implemented
  • Work with the Soft Skill Educators to schedule outdoor learning activities and invite guest speakers;
  • Support referral pathways to other employment, business development and vocational training providers
  • Coordination and Administration :

  • Coordinate closely with the Integration Centre Coordinators and Assistants to ensure effective implementation of the program activities;
  • Prepare purchase requests as needed for the program;
  • Work constructively within the team and take initiative on new tasks;
  • Participate in regular team meetings;
  • Key Working Relationships :

    Position Reports to : Livelihoods Manager

  • Internal : Soft Skills Educators; CFS Team Leader; CFS Facilitators; Project Manager; Integration learning Centre Coordinator;
  • Integration Learning Centre Assistants; Greek Language Educators; Interpeters / Intercultural Mediators

  • External : Chambers of Commerce, Businesses and Business development entities, Vocational Training Providers, Peer and partner agencies, program partner organizations, relevant working groups;
  • local and national government entities

    Other details :

    This position will be based out of the partner’s offices in Athens, Greece and may require occasional travel to other locations

    Requirements :

  • Previous experience in an administrative position or in the NGO / Humanitarian Sector;
  • Strong community outreach skills, able to effectively communicate and work with business owners, civil society groups and other community leaders;
  • Knowledge of career path options, especially those paths accessible to immigrants;
  • Strong knowledge of employment support, business development and vocational training providers in Athens;
  • Excellent organization skills with the ability to work under pressure;
  • Excellent communication skills, with fluency in written and spoken Greek and English
  • Proven ability to work with consideration and respect for cross-cultural differences
  • Enthusiasm for helping people to learn and demonstrated professionalism
  • Previous experience working with vulnerable groups and refugee population
