Job Title : Restaurant Supervisor

Job Grade : 1

Department : Food and Beverage

Job Purpose : To assist in directing, controlling and coordinating all outlet activities ensuring the outlet meets its financial and guest satisfaction objectives

C. Key results area

  • Directs and controls all subordinate staff to ensure that all day to day operational matters are handled on time and guest expectations are met.
  • Provides guidance and assistance to the outlet employees helping them in the execution of their duties and responsibilities.
  • Oversees the service standards in the outlet ensuring that they conform to the requisite standards and meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Liaises with the kitchen, stewarding, bars, housekeeping and engineering to ensure that the operation runs smoothly in areas of joint responsibility.
  • Assists in the planning and execution of promotional activities as directed.
  • Maximizes revenue in the outlet by implementing upselling procedures.
  • Assists in monitoring and controlling the financial performance of the outlet controlling costs and expenses.
  • Assists in monitoring and controlling the hotel’s OE inventory and participates in inventory taking.
  • Conducts frequent front and back of house checks ensuring mise-en-place, service procedures, standards of cleanliness and hygiene, repair and maintenance, employee grooming and manning levels are in order and takes appropriate action where necessary.
  • Assists in the maintenance of efficient administration preparing and submitting reports on time as directed.
  • Assists in the selection, training and evaluation of subordinate employees.
  • Coaches, counsels, disciplines and develops subordinate employees.

  • Contributes to the morale and team spirit of the hotel by maintaining effective relationships with colleagues.
  • Performs additional duties as directed by supervisors.
  • Makes appropriate suggestions and recommendations to supervisors for the general improvement of the hotel.
  • Is fully conversant with all health and safety, fire and emergency procedures.
  • Maintains a high standard of personal hygiene, dress, uniform, and body language.
  • Is polite and professional in any situation where the image or regulation of the hotel is represented.
  • Attends meetings and training as required by supervisors.
  • Ensures that all activities are carried out honestly, ethically, and within the parameters of local Law.
  • Interacts with guests actively soliciting feedback.

  • Quantity and nature of guest comments and complaints.

    Job Knowledge

  • Year of related experience 3 7 years
  • Education qualifications M6 plus technical certificate or diploma
  • Essential Job Skills

  • Good local and English language skills
  • Sound organizational skills
  • Sound leadership and motivational skills
  • Sound administrative ability
  • Able to handle demanding workload
  • Desirable Job Skills

  • Ability to work a personal computer
  • Proven track record in hotel of similar standard in similar capacity
  • Physical Requirements

  • In possession of all faculties.
  • Pleasant physical appearance.
  • Level of Independence

  • Limited authority with regulations. Required to show initiative and assistance when necessary.
  • Level of Thinking

  • Simple - may be required to choose between simple alternative courses of action.
  • Communication / Interpersonal Skills

  • Skill level
  • Good interpersonal skills required.Interacts with colleagues, guests and suppliers.

  • Language skills
  • Deals or negotiates in both local and English. Advantageous to communicate in other languages
