Position Summary & Responsibilities


The Network Specialist II’s role is to support the operation of ITT’s networks. This includes installation, configuration, and maintenance, of all network hardware, software, and communication links while ensuring minimal network downtime.

The person will also diagnose, resolve, and document hardware / software network problems in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide training / support where required.


Operational Management

  • Monitor, analyze and troubleshoot network performance across the organization’s LANs, WANs, and wireless deployments.
  • Ensure the stable operation and efficient performance of company networks.
  • Identify and remedy network performance bottlenecks.
  • Install and configure all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, content filters, WAN optimizers, load-balancers, and so on.
  • Maintain network management applications
  • Configure and monitor load-balancing and proxy of applications
  • Maintain all network hardware and equipment, including routers, switches, firewalls, load-balancers, and wireless equipment (all network and collaboration equipment).
  • Receive and respond to incoming calls, trouble tickets, and / or e-mails regarding network connectivity problems.
  • Perform on-site analyze, diagnosis, and resolution of network issues for a variety of end users, and recommend and implement corrective hardware and software solutions, including off-site repair.
  • Practice network asset management, including maintenance of network component inventory.
  • Prepare, maintain, and adhere to procedures for logging, reporting, and statistically monitoring network data.
  • Consult with end-users, clients, or senior management to supporting business requirements for complex systems and infrastructure development
  • Creating simple to moderately complex engineering designs.
  • Position Requirements

    Formal Education & Certification

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science and minimum of 3 years of relevant networking experience OR 5 years of relevant experience if no degree.
  • Certifications in networking (particularly Cisco) considered a plus.
  • Knowledge & Experience

  • Knowledge / understanding of network management and analysis platforms.
  • Hands-on experience with SolarWinds and Cisco Prime platforms is a plus)

  • Working knowledge of Cisco switching equipment, protocols and configuration is required.
  • Working knowledge of routing protocols is preferred.
  • Experience with routing protocols such as EIGRP & BGP is required.
  • Hands-on technical knowledge of network systems, protocols, and standards such as Ethernet, VoIP, LAN, WAN, TCP / IP, T / DS / OC, 802.11x, and so on.
  • Ability to operate tools and utilities used in troubleshooting issues.
  • Working technical knowledge of current Internet and network protocols and Windows operating systems.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting experience.
  • Ability to operate network component analyzers, scanners, and testers.
  • Ability to conduct research into networking issues and products as required.
  • Working technical knowledge of current network hardware, protocols, and standards.
  • Working technical knowledge of computer networking and computer operating systems.
  • Proficient written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.
