Position Summary :

The Team Leader Skilled position is a working lead person that assists the Maintenance Leader / Manager and provides direct, and at times supervisory, support to skilled trades team members by answering questions, solving problems, troubleshooting, training, assigning jobs and maintaining the quality and efficiency of duties and tasks.

Essential Job Functions include, but not limited to, the following :

  • Demonstrate and use of required tools / equipment.
  • Proactively facilitate continuous improvement activities with the goal of waste eliminiation and improved performance of the team.
  • Address team member questions concern while fostering a positive team oriented environment.
  • Demonstrate narrow and deep understanding of lean manufacturing principles and capabilities.
  • Provide regular and unbiased input to the Leader / Manager on the productivity and performance of team members.
  • Evaluate completion and accuracy of required forms.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding and proficiency in the use of the Plex system.
  • Provide continuity of information between shifts.
  • Troubleshoot machines with the help of other employees to solve problems. Use the problems as an opportunity to develop people in problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Cooperate with engineers and production leadership to solve problems and ensure the success of production teams.
  • Conduct on-the-job-training (OJT) with new employees.
  • Continuously develop people by involving them in setup, problem-solving, and by crosstraining.
  • Assign jobs and schedule team members according to business priorities and staffing availability.
  • Function as a back-up leader / manager as assigned.
  • Additional functions not specifically outlined in this position description as directed by the leader.
  • Additional Functions, when assigned and applicable :
  • Direct Supervision Responsiblities :
  • Manage and address the productivity of the team members.
  • Assess team member skill sets, current and future development needs and take steps to mentor and develop them appropriately.
  • Complete timekeeping requirements in Plex system.
  • Conduct and / or deliver on-time performance evaluations of assigned team members.
  • Review and address vacation requests per appropriate staffing levels and work load of the team.

  • High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED)
  • Current Journeyman within a recognized skilled trade, or equivalent experience required
  • Previous experience successfully coaching others and / or assisting with on-the-job training preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a team environment.
  • Strong problem solving skills with prior exposure to lean manufacturing tools and techniques.
  • Task oriented with strong attention to detail.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Applications
