Basic function and scope :

The Service and Citizenship Coordinator, under the direction of the Principal, is responsible for the day-to-day management of matters related to student attendance and behavior in the classroom and on school grounds.

This person implements the school’s Conscious Citizenship model and connects student behavior to service initiatives. This person handles and records the data of the students, updates the student database (Skyward) as needed and communicates with the students, parents and faculty.

This person also supervises and coordinates various Middle School student activities, as directed by the principal.

Main Duties :

A. Implements the Conscious Citizenship model and Serves as a member of the Citizenship Committee

  • Prepares presentations for faculty and students in order to promote the Citizenship Model in the Middle School.
  • Facilitates meetings among students regarding misconduct issues.
  • Schedules and organizes behavioral improvement plans depending on misconducts in collaboration with the M.S. Principal, Counselors, School Psychologist, faculty, parents, and students.
  • Holds reflective meetings following the completion of the behavioral plan. Observes student behavior in classrooms as needed and connects it to the implementation of behavioral plans as well as the learning outcomes.
  • Organizes service activities aligned with student behavioral plans in order to provide opportunities to students to improve their behaviors.
  • B. Completes all Middle School Attendance duties including but not limited to :

  • Checks messages on the phone and returns attendance calls regarding absent students before 11 a.m.
  • Calls parents of students by 11 a.m. of those students not reporting to school in the morning.
  • Updates SKYWARD absences and tardies.
  • Enters student absences on SKYWARD regarding field trips and approved school athletic and other activities.
  • Generates attendance reports as necessary.
  • Manages records of students who are excused home early.
  • Updates attendance throughout the day.
  • C. Completes Middle School Behavior Management duties including but not limited to :

  • Handles student issues that are referred or observed.
  • Communicates with the teacher regarding behavior issues.
  • Refers disturbing issues to the counselor and / or administrator immediately.
  • Refers to the Student / Parent Handbook and Code of Conduct stating the consequence of the incident to the student.
  • Calls parents / guardians the same day to inform them of the incident.
  • Writes and emails attendance and discipline letters to parents;
  • Keeps accurate files of all paperwork under the child’s name and grade;
  • Informs the Principal as soon as possible, through email of all incidences prior to giving consequences (if there is a suspension involved or more serious action);
  • Informs the students’ counselor if there is a suspension involved or more serious action)
  • Keeps accurate data of all referrals on SKYWARD and generates reports analyzing behavior and attendance data.
  • Manages, schedules and organizes reparations for students based on infractions.
  • D. Completes Middle School Service duties including but not limited to :

  • Oversees and mentors students working on service-learning projects.
  • Assists the Principal with the development and implementation of mechanisms to capture and share student and other project success stories, accomplishments, and anecdotes with the ACS Athens community.
  • Researches, develops and maintains a database of organizations at which students can volunteer, makes linkages between students and organizations, and monitors community service activities and hours.
  • Liaises with locally based individuals and organizations from a diversity of sectors to create opportunities for site visits, guest presentations, panel discussions, or other resource support for the leadership, enrichment and service programming;
  • Maintains and inputs service information in tracking documents and files to contribute to accurate monitoring and evaluation reporting.
  • Ensures service related documentation is included in student files.
  • General Duties :

  • Maintains a high visibility around the campus.
  • Develops a good rapport with the faculty.
  • Models respectful behavior to students and faculty through daily contact and a firm but fair handling of discipline and attendance issues.
  • Develops a good rapport with the parents through daily contact modeling, respectful conduct and a firm but fair handling of behavior and attendance expectations as per the Student / Parent Handbook.
  • Handles lost and found.
  • Supervises students as necessary.
  • Maintains student locker database and communicates locker information as appropriate.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the Principal or his / her designee.
  • Qualifications :

  • B.A. or B.S. or a related degree from an accredited institution.
  • Two years experience working in a school setting.
  • Fluent in oral & written English and Greek.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Excellent computer skills with experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
