The position is undertaken and fulfilled by IRC and is exclusively funded by third bodies with predetermined duration to materialize a specific program.

At work today in over 40 countries, the IRC aims to restore safety, dignity and hope to millions who are uprooted and struggling to endure.

In response to the arrival of refugees in Greece in 2015, the IRC has been offering SMS, WASH and Protection services. Among others, through its child protection programs, the IRC has been offering individual support through case management to vulnerable children and their families, non-

formal educational activities for children through Safe Healing and Learning Spaces and emergency accommodation and protection to unaccompanied children.

The current program aims at offering age and culturally appropriate activities for children, 2 to 7 years old, in order for them to feel safe, develop their social and emotional skills and learn.

Scope of work :

Brief description of the position’s role within the Project(s) :

The CFS (Child Friendly Space) Facilitator will be responsible for leading guided activities for children enrolled in the CFS and undertake other administrative activities.

Major objectives :

  • Use child-centered approaches and provide a safe environment for playing, socializing and learning according to established schedules and routines;
  • Keep accurate and safe records of children / youth daily attendance.
  • Who this position reports to :

    The CFS Facilitators will report to the CFS Team Leader. Facilitators will also receive support and advice from the CFS Advisor.

    Responsibilities :

  • Attend trainings organized by the IRC and / or other organizations;
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct, Child Safeguarding Policy and IRC Way Standards for Professional Conduct;
  • Take children’s attendance for each session, keep accurate, daily updated records and safely store them;
  • Lead games and activities and regularly revise them and adapt them to the needs of the children, in cooperation with the CFS Team Leader and the CFS Advisor;
  • Help in setting schedules for daily / weekly activities for children;
  • Closely supervise children during group play and ensure they are safe while receiving services in the CFS;
  • Appropriately handle any crises or issues that arise in the CFS;
  • Create a positive and trustful atmosphere while interacting with children and parents, encouraging them to express their needs and ensuring their feeling of safety;
  • Observe children with special needs and ensure they are well integrated into the activities and if needed refer them to relevant services;
  • Answer questions from community members and parents about what activities are taking place in the CFS;
  • Identify and provide materials required for activities preferred by children, in coordination with relevant departments and procurement procedures;
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor to enable and develop IRC programs
  • Professional Standards :

  • All CFS Facilitators are required to adhere tothe IRC Child Safeguarding Principles, THE IRC Way Standards for Professional Conductand the IRC country employment policies.
  • Requirements :

  • Bachelor of Arts from accredited university in a related field (education, social work, psychology);
  • Minimum of 1 years of experience in a similar position;
  • Experience in teaching Greek as a foreign language, on a volunteer or paid basis;
  • Experience in teaching children or implementing recreational activities with children;
  • Experience in implementing psychosocial support activities is an advantage;
  • Sensitivity to and awareness of the psychosocial and developmental needs of children;
  • Possession of technical skills such as painting, music e.tc. are considered as an asset;
  • Understanding of child safeguarding policies and of safe behaviors around and towards children;
  • Cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity;
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Ability to communicate, orally and in writing, in Greek and English. Preference will be given to candidates with knowledge in the following languages : Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Pashto, Urdu, Kurdish;
  • Work Envirnoment : working hours on shifts, from 09 : 00 to 21 : 00, TBC by the Supervisor.

    Key Objectives :

  • Attend and actively participate in all training sessions organized by the IRC including taking pre / post tests as instructed
  • Accurately and safely keep attendance records of children at each session
  • Complete observations or weekly reports as requested by the Team Leader
  • Remain open to feedback from CFS Team Leaders and IRC staff
