Job Summary

In coordinating the delivery of USG supported application software, the GeorgiaBEST Release Manager's responsibilities include the enforcement of overall release management processes, constructing deployment schedules with milestones showing key dependencies between components of the release, and actively building and packaging those components into post-Development environments while maintaining the integrity and availability of existing systems.

The employee will follow standard Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodology along with adherence to IT best practices and standards.

The tasks for this position are varied in nature and very often time critical, so organization and time-management are highly valued.

Responsibilities

Management of multiple software deployment efforts simultaneously, especially the formal planning, risk assessment, and prioritization of associated release efforts.

Maintain procedures and procedural documentation for release management and software distribution to ensure operational efficiencies.

Collaborate with Technical Writers and Business Analysts on communications and documentation for consistent, reliable, and repeatable workflows.

Work within established guidelines for source code structure and SDLC processes, while making recommendations for process changes and deployment automations to other members of the team.

Actively participate in a targeted effort to focus on customer relationship improvements through improved communications, anticipating customer’s technology support needs, soliciting and responding to customer feedback, and meeting defined target response times.

Coordinate software deployments for internal environments to ensure technical currency is maintained.

Manage Ellucian software access privileges for USG Managed Services; Implement changes in software distribution procedures to accommodate appropriate permissions for ITS DBAs performing both internal and hosted customer database maintenances.

Perform other duties / projects as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Baccalaureate degree required.

Over five years of related experience required, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Strongly Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a relevant field of study, Computer Science, Management / Computer Information Systems, or related field;
  • or equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Experience with release, change, and configuration management of complex system integration and projects through the SDLC.

    Ability to communicate effectively verbally, in writing, and through formal presentations to individuals at all levels of the organization (executives, peers, developers, customers).

    Ability to think strategically, anticipate the needs of various departments, and provide research and analytics to support those needs.

    References indicating a history of acting as diplomatic, experienced technology and business professional with negotiation and change-agent skills.

    Preferred

    Experience in Higher Education working with Ellucian Banner or a similar enterprise ERP solution.

    Experience with a formalized project management methodology.

    Experience with business process development.

    Experience utilizing software version control software for application builds and deployments.

    ITIL Certified in IT service management.
