Role Purpose :

The Chapter Lead is a tenured functional expert who is responsible for managing the performance and development of the Squad members belonging to the Chapter and champions functional excellence.

This role coordinates knowledge sharing and improved interactions between roles within its own Chapter, similar Chapters within the Tribe and across Tribes respectively.

  • Responsible for owning, leading, and driving the relevant experts / specialists sitting across squads / scrums. As a senior professional, the Chapter Lead is tasked with developing the skills of all chapter members;
  • has line management responsibilities and helps stimulate innovation, ensuring industry trends are being reflected within Vodafone.

    In particular, the Digital Backend Chapter owns the backend elements our digital technology stack. The chapter domain expands from the new Pega engine, where VF Greece will run every single campaign on, to the new e-commerce and server nodes, that power vodafone.

    Key accountabilities and decision ownership :

  • Promotes innovation and continuous improvement together with scalable and sustainable development within their practice area;
  • Defines the professional standards / work methodology in the chapter (for example ensuring adoption of software design standards);
  • Leads and develops the abilities and skills of the members of the chapter, increasing their productivity in the delivery of value for clients;
  • Defines processes of interaction, transfer of knowledge and tool sharing among the members of the chapter;
  • Holds responsibility for the performance evaluation of the members of the chapter regarding their personal development;
  • Works with the Tribe Lead to provide workforce planning, to include recruitment and development;
  • Participates as an expert, solving complex problems related to area of expertise on an ad-hoc basis with other teams within the Tribe;
  • Acts as servant leader, rather than line manager, maturing the organisation readiness, as opposed to controlling the work;
  • Establishes regular feedback sessions and owns the PD cycle for chapter members;
  • Acts as a mentor for the specialist resources within their practice, helping them grow in expertise and experience new areas.
  • Core competencies, knowledge and experience :

  • Agile - Understands agile methodologies (e.g. Kanban, Lean, Scrum, Design Thinking) and apply agile ways of working. Is an Agile Leader and role model of the agile mind-set and principles.
  • Coaching & Mentoring - Creates a professional relationship in order to develop others by using coaching, mentoring, feedback and stretch assignments supporting Vodafone’s learning culture.
  • Change & Adaptability - Evaluates, leads, and adapts to change and shifting demands in different situations.
  • Facilitation - Can apply a range of techniques to support facilitation, training and teaching to guide and manage a group event to ensure that objectives are met effectively, with clear thinking, good participation and full buy-in from everyone involved.
  • SW Development Writes highly efficient server-side software with different technologies, and manages large codebases coordinating with multiple teams.
  • Defines the vision for the technology stack, and sets concrete goals to materialize the vision through all chapter members.
