SENIOR PAYROLL MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION

Sr. Payroll Manager is in charge of processing payroll from start to finish in compliance with local regulation for multiple sites or entities as well as being the lead sponsor for projects related to Payroll as needed.

Job Functions

  • Manage multi-cycle, multi-national payrolls in order to ensure that the payrolls will be processed accurately and efficiently
  • Manage a team of specialists and may serve as lead for other Payroll Managers
  • Oversee and ensure tax compliance in local and foreign countries
  • Lead and assist with internal and external audit requirements
  • Strategize on internal and interdepartmental process improvements
  • Maintain standardization of payroll data within the multiple sites or entities
  • Maintain payroll system updated and advice on new system applications or improvements required.
  • Job Responsibilities

    The Senior Payroll Manager position covers the following responsibilities, but not limited to :

  • Complete Payroll process evaluation and recommendations for improvement
  • Provide managerial support and guidance for payroll activities
  • Manage payroll and timekeeping systems
  • Maintain partnerships with various vendors for payroll, timekeeping, garnishments, and governmental agencies.
  • Solid understanding of employment law, regulatory and legal compliance to address notifications and provide guidance to team of payroll specialist
  • Completes Payroll reconciliations and designs new reports as needed
  • Demonstrate positive team performance
  • Ensure that process service levels are met in accordance with set standards
  • Ensures that all internal risk and control guidelines are met and executed in every process
  • Responsible for manager training programs on payroll and timekeeping
  • Subject matter expert with the ability to apply knowledge of the business to solve strategic payroll issues
  • Assist in preparation of corporate budgets and annual estimates for salaries and payroll taxes
  • Works with the Payroll Director, Operations leadership, and other Departments in coordination of departmental efforts, objectives and strategic goals.
  • This includes, but is not limited to, prioritization of work, budgets, staffing, and policy decisions

  • Develops resolutions to complex problems that require the frequent use of creativity
  • Responsible for hiring, determining staffing levels and resource allocation for the Payroll team
  • Partner with process peers in Human Resources, Benefits, Finance, Accounting, Treasury, Legal, Labor Relations, Corporate Taxes, and related third party vendors to resolve employee questions / issues
  • Provide key support to the Finance and Accounting group
  • Fluency with HR policies pertaining to payroll such as overtime, leave, benefits, employee compensation, health and welfare, and retirement benefit administration
  • Coach and develop payroll team
  • Complete due diligence and ensure smooth start of payroll in new countries where payroll will be managed by the US Team and work with local Payroll and accounting vendors.
  • Conduct meetings with different level contacts and departments as needed.
  • Other Related Duties

  • Participate in projects as needed.
  • Minimum Education and Experience :

  • High school diploma required
  • Bachelor’s Degree with emphasis on business or accounting preferred
  • Experience with computerized payroll processing
  • Experience with Payroll Vendor management and ORACLE and Workday HR / Payroll systems a plus
  • Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Must be detailed oriented
  • Able to meet deadlines
  • International Payroll processing experience preferred
  • Multi-state / multi-province
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities :

  • Outstanding customer service
  • Excellent written and verbal communication. Ability to communicate with all levels across the various departments.
  • Able to work in fast paced and high volume process environment
  • Diligent in following through to guarantee full completion of task or issue.
  • Should be able to work independently to ensure day to day functions and projects are completed and should be able to work as a team for collaboration, projects or achievement of team and company goals.
  • Use all resources available to resolving issues and escalate as needed to manager.
  • Be able to respond assertively regarding payroll matters.
  • Must have a good sense of urgency.
