Faros is a Christian non-profit organization established in 2014. We support vulnerable refugee children and youth, with a special focus on unaccompanied minors.
In November 2020 Faros opened a drop-in center and street work program for homeless unaccompanied minors between 12-16 years.
The drop-in center aims to be a place where minors can build friendships and have their basic needs covered. We provide case management as well as food and clothes handouts.
We provide recreational activities such, such as a football program, life skills classes and basic language classes in order to raise self-worth, resilience and agency within our beneficiaries.
The overall purpose of the project is to find and embrace unaccompanied children and refugee youth and provide them with immediate protection, help them discover their worth and link them to best possible further relational and system support.
In continuation of our drop-in center, we have a shelter that houses 22 unaccompanied male minors aged 10-18 years. The shelter has been operating since 2016 and employs a multidisciplinary staff of caretakers, interpreters, psychologists and social workers.
The shelter bases its service on a holistic approach, which takes into consideration all aspects of the childs life. This means seeing and meeting each individual minors needs, including integrated trauma-informed psychosocial care, support to participate in education and civil society as well as letting each minor live out a best possible child life.
Moreover, Faros runs an education and training centre Horizon for youth, including stabilized unaccompanied minors from the drop-in centre.
We base our work on a holistic approach, where we both handle their challenges at the same time work to find long-term solutions.
