About the job

We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced team player to act as Data Protection Counsel as part of Beat’s legal department.

The role will be located in our offices in Athens, Greece.

This role provides an outstanding opportunity to support Beat in the still evolving and complex world of data protection compliance across many different jurisdictions, and in relation to Beat’s innovative products and services.

The successful candidate will have diverse experience in the area of data protection law in the European Union, and be able το apply complex and evolving legal frameworks to new and innovative products and services.

The role will focus on providing legal advice and solutions to identify and mitigate legal risk in all phases of business operations.

This may include supporting workstreams such as governance and accountability, commercial agreements, infrastructure, human resources, incident response, and standalone projects.

You must be passionate about fast-moving consumer-led businesses with a solid understanding of the technology sector, and you must pride yourself on delivering work of a high standard and quality, as well as enjoying taking the initiative to make things happen.

What you'll do day in day out :

  • Partner with Beat’s business teams to provide practical, expert advice on privacy issues related to complex business matters, commercial contracts, and to drive compliance with all applicable privacy laws and regulations, including GDPR
  • Advise on and support Beat’s business teams on legal and regulatory requirements related to privacy, information security, and incident response
  • Monitor, report, and respond to developments in privacy and information security (i.e., new laws, regulations, important judgements, regulatory guidance, etc)
  • Assist in creating, identifying, implementing, and managing privacy, information security, and incident response policies, procedures, and guidance
  • Support privacy projects taking place across the Beat organisation, partner with teams to perform Privacy Impact Assessments / Data
  • Protection Impact Assessments and Legitimate Interest Assessments, provide DPA contracting support, and facilitate integration of privacy, risk, and compliance requirements into business planning processes, including marketing and new product development
  • Contribute to and support data protection training and compliance programs

    What you need to have :

  • Bachelor Degree in Law; an LL.M. from a renowned law school would be considered a plus
  • Qualified to practice law in at least one European jurisdiction
  • Minimum of five (5) years of relevant legal experience, including at a law firm or prior in-house experience (applicable litigation, commercial law or regulatory experience will be considered)
  • Strong knowledge of data protection law, as well as experience in global privacy matters
  • Strong multi-tasking, attention to detail, and organisational skills
  • Ability to assess legal, practical and business risks quickly and accurately in a fast-paced environment, and make sound judgments under tight deadlines
  • Excellent problem-solving, written and oral communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to find practical and creative solutions and provide concise and business-focused legal advice
  • Absolute commitment to professionalism and collegiality
  • Fluency in English and Greek (oral & written); knowledge of Spanish would be considered a plus
  • CIPP certification strongly preferred
