Contract : 9 months fixed term contract renewable

Pay band : Teacher salary scale

Annual Salary : The British Council will pay an hourly teaching rate ranging from €15.51 to €19.09 depending upon experience and qualifications in remuneration for all the above-mentioned accountabilities, responsibilities, and main duties.

Role Purpose

To teach young learners between the ages of 6 and 17 to British Council standards and take an active part in all British Council initiatives and professional learning and development.

About British Council Greece

There are two teaching centres (TCs) in Kolonaki and Kiffisia. Currently there are around 1,700 students per academic year.

All sites are equipped with IWBs / Smart boards and teaching takes place almost exclusively between 1600 2200 Mon Fri and 0830 1730 Saturdays.

The British Council has a global learning management system for online classes and our own global products. Teachers will work most closely with other teachers, two Academic Managers, teaching co-ordinators, the Exams Department and a Customer Services and Call Centre team which is shared across departments.

Main duties

to plan, prepare and deliver 2- 3- or 4-hour young learner lessons on agreed days / times including Saturdays

to monitor, give feedback to encourage student autonomy and counsel students where required

to contribute to the evaluation, development, and improvement of course materials and related services in order to meet students’ needs

to deliver courses to agreed timetables, plan and manage courses purposefully and in accordance with syllabus and learning aims

to complete related administrative tasks such as student registers.

to comply with copyright law if developing additional materials to supplement course materials

to agree a learning and development plan taking into account centre and professional needs

to assist with break monitoring as required.

First degree

CELTA / Trinity cert TESOL or equivalent (equivalent must include at least 100 contact hours devoted to content focus on English language, language learning and teaching English to speakers of other languages, as well as at least 6 hours of assessed teaching practice)

2 years’ full-time post CELTA qualification teaching experience
