Background

DRChas been operating in Greece since November 2015, providing support to theGreek Ministry of Migration Policy in ensuring dignified reception conditionsfor refugees and migrants arriving on Lesvos island.

In March 2016, DRCexpanded its operations in Athens, in response to the changing context and thebuild-up of refugee population on mainland Greece.

Purpose

Under the overall supervisionof the SMS Coordinator the SMS interpreter will provide interpretationservices, from Arabic AND French to Greek and retro-

versa. The SMS interpreterupon prior assignment by the SMS Coordinator will primarily, but notexclusively, support Site Managers, public authorities and medical actorsimplement their activities.

His / her role will be distinct from that of SMSCultural Mediators, in order to safeguard confidentiality and neutrality forPoC sensitive personal data.

Duties andResponsibilities

  • Provide precise interpretation during the sessions held between Site Managers, public authorities, medical actors and other service providers, and Persons of Concern.
  • Strictly abide to the principles of neutrality, impartiality and accuracy and apply these to interpretation
  • Occasionally provide written translation when required;
  • Located in Attica wherever DRC operates as an SMS actor, in the urban areas or in the refugee sites, as requested.
  • Other tasks as required by the SMS Coordinator or Area Manager to support the implementation of DRC’s SMS activities.
  • RequiredQualifications

  • Excellent verbal and written Greek, Arabic and French skills are required; all candidates will undergo a language test with a native speaker.
  • Basic level in verbal and written English skills will be highly appreciated.
  • Extensive vocabulary and ability to accurately translate complex ideas and information, capacity to understand and translate, legal, procedural and medcal information
  • Previous work experience as an interpreter with local or international NGOs will be considered as a strong advantage
  • Relevant training or certification of translator / interpreter will be considered as a strong advantage
  • Good computer skills required

  • Terms and Conditions

    The contract willbe under the Greek Labor Law, and all allowances will be provided to theemployees (Christmas, Easter, Vacation bonus).

    The position willbe based in Attika (Greece) and national terms and conditions apply.

    General Regulations

    The employee shall follow DRC instructions on safety, confidentiality andethical guidelines, including the Code of Conduct and the HumanitarianAccountability Framework.

    Employee should not engage in any other paid activity during the DRCcontract period without prior authorization.

    Employee should not engage in any activity that could harm DRC or theimplementation of any project during the DRC contract period.

    Employee should not give interviews to the media or publishproject-related photos or other material without prior authorization.

    Employee shall return all borrowed equipment for the project to DRC afterthe end of the contract period or upon request.
